We are back at it again with the looks for less. Summer shopping is always so much fun. It's that time of year when you can be your most expressive because there are colors and prints everywhere you look. When it's hot outside you just want to dress like the sun, all bright and shiny. This is where I have to wave the yellow caution flag.
When it comes to spending less you have to be careful not to be "doing the most". Keep it simple. Pair patterns with solids and stick to the basics. If you wear a pattern make sure that the item is in a basic style. For example; large check patterns are popular in summer. If you choose this pattern for a skirt make it a pencil skirt or a fitted mini. Don't go for the big pouf, circle or flared skirt because you will risk looking like you wrapped yourself in the picnic tablecloth.
Also, pair it with a solid top like a plain white T, collared shirt or crop top in a coordinating color.
Speaking of color, if you are a fashionista on a budget then black should be a staple in your wardrobe. With the right accessories a good black skirt can take you from workday to an evening out with a quick change of your blouse. No other color says "sexy", "expensive", "classy" and "classic" all at the same time. With the right shoes a simple black dress can take you from broke bitch to snobby rich chick in the bat of an eye.
And finally, if you really want that high price look for the low low you will need to pull your look together with the right handbag and shoes. If you are on a budget and you have to choose one clothing or accessory item to invest in make that either your handbag or your shoes. For me, the heart of an outfit is the shoe. I plan my outfits around my shoes. Shoes were my first love. As a matter of fact I'm still having an ongoing affair with Christian, Jimmy and Manolo but, I digress. If you don't think the shoes and handbag matter you are wrong. Everyone notices the shoes. Yes, everyone, even men. And most people will notice your bag.
If you choose to invest in a good pair of shoes look for a pointy toe stiletto pump in black or nude. You will get the most use out of that style and both colors will go with everything. Get the kid leather instead of the patent. Patent is beautiful but, it's also memorable. If your budget doesn't allow for both the shoes and the handbag PLEASE do not buy a knock off designer bag. It's not worth your hard earned money and even though you will think you have the best kept secret, Honey, everyone will know your tea. Trust me.
Also don't just throw your old worn satchel over your shoulder with your new look. Go to a store like TJ Maxx or Marshalls and spend $30 on a wallet. Find a nice black leather wallet, with no embellishments, that's big enough to hold your cell phone, a lip gloss, your ID and Credit/Debit card. Carry the wallet instead of a handbag. It will hold all of your essentials and it looks simple and chic.
